Film Festival Research
I have been looking at festivals to submit my film to when it is completed and found a couple of useful websites that lists local film festivals held.
Yorkshire Festivals
Screen Yorkshire
This is my short list of festivals I have in mind to submit my film to.
Encounters :
The final deadline for this festival is in June so it gives me plenty of time to get my film done. There is a €25 charge for entries. There is a student entry fee but they recommend colleges submit their work tother and receive the multiple entry discount.
Underwire :
This festival is specifically for women and must have women actors as the main characters but that does not mean men cannot work on it they just will not be eligible for awards at the festival. To enter you have to be British or Irish and the film can be no longer than 20 minutes. The deadline for this festival is the 31st June. In terms of productions containing men it has some very strict rules on eligibility. I am working on my own for the production so this would not be a problem.
Promax Short Film Festival
The entry requirements for this festival are really simple, it is only it's 3rd year running and entry is free. You must have permission for music and not be associated with the company.
From the options I have selected I have decided to aim my film at the Underwire Festival as I like the fact it is an all woman's festival. It takes submissions for a range of films including music videos and artist films. I will be aiming it to the artist film category as this the type of film I want to make.
I am aiming for my film to be a maximum of 10 minutes, the requirements specify it must be under 20 minutes running time so this will be acceptable.
They have films of a similar genre submitted to the festival so this would be a great choice for me. An example would be this surrealist film Candy Girl by Lucy Luscombe which can be found on Vimeo.
This being an example of what is shown at the festival makes me more confident that my film will fit the audience it has a similar feel in terms of music to what I am wanting for my film and the genre overall. As it was a winner I know it is suitable for this festival.

These are images from some of the audience feedback events and screenings, there are a variety of people that attend. Most are women but men also attend, there are a range of ages and ethnicities that attend. I'd like a variety of people to see my film and judging from the images this festival has that.
UnderWire aim to give their audiences a variety and I feel my film could contribute to this as an artist film, the contents is quite dark but not too heavy that it would be unsuitable for younger viewers. I don't want to contain explicit scenes.
